Father Van der Poel does not want to compare riders with each other: “Remco is Remco”

In Extra Time Koers father Adri van der Poel showed his admiration for Cian Uijtdebroeks.

It was not exactly the World Cup of Cian Uijtdebroeks. He had to deal with bad luck and had to drive alone almost all day. Uijtdebroeks is often referred to as the new Remco Evenepoel. “It may be typical Belgian to compare riders. I don’t like that. Remco is Remco and Uijtdebroeks is Uijtdebroeks,” says Van der Poel.

Such comparisons create too much pressure, according to Van der Poel. “Then I think, ‘What are we doing?’ Let that man cycle and let him enjoy it.”

That also applies to Remco Evenepoel”He is asked if he wants to take revenge in the Tour of Lombardy after his heavy fall last year. But which revenge? It’s a race like any other. If Remco wins in Lombardy, is it okay. If he doesn’t win, that’s okay too. Remco is 21 years old. What do we want now?”
