Fernández and Espiritusanto, Caribbean Cycling Champions

SANTO DOMINGO. The Dominican riders Juan Sebastián Venegas Fernández and Flor Georgina Espiritusanto imposed their quality during the last competition this Sunday of the Junior Caribbean Cycling Championship that was held in the Mirador Sur Park.

Venegas Fernández easily dominated the route modality, of the junior category, after traveling a distance of 70 kilometers, with a time of one hour 55 minutes.

Fernández was escorted by his compatriots, Gabriel Rodrigo Alonso Valerio and Jhoan Manuel Rodríguez Belén, who ranked second and third, respectively.

The Creole Georgina Espiritusanto, occupied the first place of the juvenile, after traveling a distance of 60 kilometers, with a mark of one hour and 51 minutes. Chanelle Russell, Jamaica, was second, while the Quisqueyana, Karel Alexa Ramírez, took the third rung.

In the junior female category, Puerto Rican Rosely Mercado won the gold medal, traveling 60 kilometers, with a time of one hour and 51 minutes, escorted by the Dominican, Scarlett Yamilex Rodríguez and Rebecca Jansen, from Aruba.

On his side, Jorge Blas Díaz, president of the Dominican Cycling Federation, said that he is pleased with the results obtained in the youth championship.

“Seeing so many talented youngsters fills me with great pride, I think we have brought this championship to a safe harbor. I want to thank Major General Elvis Marcelino Feliz Pérez (FARD), president of the Board of Directors of the Armed Forces Sports Circle, who from the first day we approached to talk to him about this event gave us his support, thank you for believing in youth ” Diaz pointed out.

Athletes from Bermuda, Grenada, Barbados, Jamaica, Bahamas, Aruba, Puerto Rico, Saint Martin, Curaçao and the host Dominican Republic participated in the fair.

The event was supported by the Ministry of Sports, the Dominican Olympic Committee, the Pan American Cycling Confederation, the Caribbean Cycling Federation and the International Cycling Union.
