Radja Nainggolan invited his buddy Romelu Lukaku for dinner on Tuesday evening, in the Asian restaurant Umami in the Luikstraat in Antwerp South. “Radja is a regular customer and often brings his friends here,” says Wim Van der Borght, owner of the business.

Every top athlete deserves a moment to enjoy delicacies at a restaurant. Radja Nainggolan, who has recently returned to Antwerp, took his good friend Romelu Lukaku to a restaurant. The duo enjoyed an evening in restaurant Umami aan het Zuid in Antwerp. “I think this is Nainggolan’s favorite restaurant,” says Wim Van der Borght, owner of the restaurant. “We see him here regularly with other players such as Mertens, De Bruyne or Vertonghen.”
Although Nainggolan returns regularly with company, the players seem to trust the chef’s recommendations blindly. “The footballers don’t have any real favorite dishes that they reorder every time they visit. They prefer to be advised by the chef, so that they can eat a varied mix of dishes and experience the conviviality of the ‘sharing food concept’”, says Wim.
No VIP room
High-earning football players regularly enjoy luxurious or exclusive places, but at Umami they are not allocated a separate room or menu. “The star players are treated here like all other customers. I think that’s also the reason why Radja keeps coming back with friends. They just want to enjoy the food in peace.”
At the end of the evening, Lukaku made time to take a picture with staff members.
