The Municipal Judo and Self Defense Schools are back |

The only municipal sports schools that remained to return after cutting their classes in March 2020 due to the pandemic were the Judo and Jiu Jistu children’s schools and the Personal Defense for adults. Adapted to the new normal and with the mask as one more garment, about eighty participants returned to the tatami this Saturday twenty months later.

The opening of the Judo Club season, which runs the municipal Judo and Personal Defense schools, was more special than usual. As these are sports with a lot of physical contact, they have waited until now to resume their classes in the ‘José Cañizares’ judo room, located in the facilities of the municipal athletics track, where “there was already a lot of desire to return,” according to the club president, Pedro Callejas.

Classes will once again be led by teacher Paqui Moreno, who has already begun preparing with her students for upcoming competitions. Everything will remain the same. The only novelty will be the mandatory nature of the mask at all times. “At the moment you have to wear it as one more garment and we will see in time,” said the teacher.

Who will also continue to attend to the classes is the veteran teacher José Cañizares who has been faithful to his appointment with the Apple Judo for more than 40 years. In fact, after leaving all his federative positions, the only place he will leave Puertollano to continue with this sport will be Manzanares. “I carry it inside me and Manzanares is a part of my life,” he said to the applause of his students.

As has been customary since he was mayor, Julián Nieva was the one who did not miss this inaugural appointment of the course, who thanked José Cañizares, Paqui Moreno and Pedro Callejas for making Apple Judo a reference throughout all these years. once again aroused the interest of many children and adults.

The boys and girls of the Judo and Jiu Jitsu School greeted the mayor and their teachers after taking the first class of the season. Then it was the turn of the elders of the School of Personal Defense. To all of them, the mayor thanked them for their commitment and expressed the support of the City Council.
