BADMINTON: Full box for the Duo-Mixto

Amiens UC Badminton held its national doubles and mixed doubles tournament last weekend. Back on this first big tournament after two years of absence.

You had to get up early this weekend to see the first badists hit the steering wheel, but what a pleasure for the Amiens club to see this again. Hall of 4 oaks filled with players from all the surrounding areas. These are in total 226 players who made the trip to the Picardy capital, with among them, around thirty AUCists who defended the club’s colors. If the organization of the tournament requires a relatively large investment from the club, especially in human resources with the need for volunteers, the fact remains that this edition is a real success for the association.

Beyond the pleasure of welcoming the many badists, it is a highlight of the club that allows volunteers to better discover each other, sometimes to meet, but also to support teammates at home! The association retains the desire to bring together all levels in the same room, which makes it a very popular tournament. Indeed, unclassified beginners can rub shoulders with and attend opposing matches national ranking players as in series N2 / N3. Without taking into account the classification, all the players, whatever the table, gave the best of themselves to perform on the fields.

The show is waiting for you!

On the day of Saturday, these are men’s doubles and ladies’ doubles that played out. On the side of the Amiens, despite about twenty pairs entered, few will be mounted on the box. Indeed, in men only the pair FIRON/BOCQUILLON is illustrated by winning the DH P10 / NC, leaving in the group stage the pair leading tournament series 1. In women, the pair DEBIEVE / MESSAN wins with authority in DD P10 / NC yielding only one small set over the entire tournament. The pairs BRABANT / HERNOUT, DEGROOTE / NGUYEN and CATTEAU / CATTEAU finished at the foot of the podium. However, many AUCists performed well during the group stages.

Guillaume Firon and Romain Bocquillon winners of the double-man P10 / NC

On the day of Sunday, place mixed doubles. Out of 17 committed Amiens pairs, only 8 get out of the group stages in their respective tables. In series R4 / R5, LABIZE / FACON stops in 1 / 2F while the pair LIARD / PETIT fails 1 / 4F against the future winners. Same fate for DEGROOTE / PETERS in R6 / D7. In D8 / D9, the pairs BOTTINELLI / BINOIS and DE KERF / HAEGEMANN see their course stopped in the 1/8 final, while the mixed DENORME / MARTEL will stop in the following round.
In the P10 / NC series, CATTEAU / CHEVALIER tilt in 1 / 4F. In the semi-final, it’s a 100% AUCistes duel or PATOUX / MESSAN are opposed to PESTY / SAFFERS. The latter won in 3 sets at the end of a daunting match (24-22 / 24-26 / 21-13). In the final, no room for doubt, their Laonnois opponents easily win.
If in sporting terms, the harvest of medals is leaner than it could be, the fact remains that the Amiens have been the authors of good performances.

The fact remains that the club can congratulate itself on the success of this new edition, as the feedback from the players is very positive. There is no doubt that it is thanks to the many volunteers stationed at the refreshment bar, at the reception, or at the official table, and who want to welcome participants in the best conditions. Among the small details that allow the club to stand out, the volunteer’s dynamic and unprecedented game launches Pascal LABIZE, have become essential, which gives a smile to all participants.

It is with pleasure that the club now gives an appointment March 12 and 13, 2022 for the traditional Hortillons tournament (singles, doubles and mixed) always in the same room and always 2 leavers per hen!
