The New York Jets were crushed by the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday Night of Week 9 of the 2021 season and they lost Marcus maye, one of his best defensive players for the rest of the season.
Head coach Robert Saleh announced at a press conference that Maye suffered a torn Achilles tendon during the game against the Colts. With this diagnosis, Maye is the second Jets player who is out due to a tear in the said tendon, the first was Carl Lawson.
Maye, who had 46 tackles and one sack in six games, was signed by the Jets under the franchise tag for the 2021 season as they could not agree to a contract extension during the off-season. Now, the future of the player is in the air.
Maye’s absence
For your teammates and coaches, Maye’s absence will be noticeable. The University of Florida product was drafted in the second round of the 2017 Draft and has since played 60 games with the Jets.
“I’ve seen this story too many times in the league. If anyone can come back from an injury like this, it’s Marcus. The journey is not over, the story is not over. He has our full support ”, declared the head coach.
For Jeff Ulbrich, his defensive coordinator, the responsibility will fall on the players available for New York. Among them are Ashtyn Davis, Sharrod Neasman and Jarrod Wilson.
“It is disheartening. Someone was in a one-year contract and many players become selfish in that situation looking for the most money, but Marcos was not like that. He came to work every day. He is the general of our defense. He will be missed. We have a group of players who will have to take a step forward ”, declared the coordinator.
