Judo contributes 4 medals and RD increases to 8 medals in Youth Pan American Games

EL NUEVO DIARIO, CALI, Colombia-. There are already 8 medals won by athletes from the Dominican Republic participating in the first Youth Pan American Games held in Cali, Colombia.

After the Creole delegation obtained 4 medals on Friday, this Saturday judo contributed another four, to reach 8 in three days.

Judokas Moira Morillo, Axel del Castillo, Albis Castro and Omaria Ramírez Piña contributed 4 medals this Saturday.

With the four medals obtained by Morillo, Del Castillo, Castro and Omaria, judo has conquered seven of the eight that the Dominican Republic has in the youth multisport event.

Morillo, in more than 78 kilos, lost to the Cuban Thalia Narino Castellano, to stay with the silver medal of the specialty.

The fighter, who trains at the High Technification Center in Valencia, Spain, beat Lina Olaya Moreno, from Ecuador, and dispatched the Brazilian Luana Ribeiro Oliveira in the quarterfinals, and in the semifinal she beat Priscilla Paola Martínez , from Mexico.

Del Castillo, in less than 100 kilos, was surpassed by Kayo Silva Dos Santos, from Brazil. The Dominican won his first match against Manuel Velásquez Ruiz, from Panama, and in the semifinal he defeated Marcos Soares Dos Santos, from Brazil.

The judokas have won one gold, three silver and three bronze medals. This Sunday will be the mixed team competitions on the final day of judo.

The bronze ones

Albis Castro won the bronze of 81 kilos by beating Juan Pablo Ruiz, from Colombia. The Dominican defeated Javier Rosas Hoyos, from Mexico, in his first fight, and then fell to the Brazilian Marcos Soares Dos Santos.

Omaria, on the other hand, won the third-place metal by defeating the Panamanian Adela Ángeles Espinoza in the women’s minus 78 kilos category.

The Quisqueyan judoka lost her first fight 0-10 against the Ecuadorian Gueyler Colmenares and in the second fight she defeated the Venezuelan Génessis Criollo Peñaloza by ippon.

BOXING

The boxer José Luis de los Santos fell in the fight of the quarterfinals against the American Isaías Navarro by unanimous decision in the category of 52 kilograms.

The defeat of the Dominican boxer corresponded to the first day of the boxing contest.

Despite the fact that the Dominican had a great start in the first round, where he put the American in trouble, the five judges saw Navarro as the winner in all three rounds.

The total sum of the judges was 150 for the American and 135 for the Creole, in the fight that took place on the Luis Ignacio Álvarez court, in Buga, the sub-headquarters of the Pan-Americans.

Jilary Carrera, a boxer who competes in the category 64 – 69 kilograms, lost by unanimous decision against the American Jesika Guerra in a three-round bout.

BADMINTON

Nairobi Jiménez advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Fátima Beatriz Centeno Fuentes 2 sets by 0 (21-15, 24-22) in the badminton tournament held in Yumbo Valle.

Jiménez will play this Sunday in search of crossing to the semifinal and securing a bronze medal.

In other results, Santiago’s Daniel Acosta Hilario and Nairobi Jiménez lost 0 set by 2 to Jacqueline María López and Jonathan Santos de Souza, from Brazil, in a mixed doubles match.

SWIMMING

Dominicans Elizabeth Samira Jiménez Garrido, Mariel Mencía Martínez, Denzel González Ramírez and Brandon Francisco Vives Suárez failed to qualify for the final in the qualifying swimming events.

In series 2 of the qualifying rounds of the women’s 200 meters freestyle, the Dominicans Elizabeth Samira Jiménez Garrido and Mariel Mencía Martínez failed to qualify, occupying fourth and seventh places, respectively.

Jiménez Garrido recorded a time of 2: 10.35, while Martínez clocked 2: 13.64.

TRIATHLON

The Dominican Melvin Rafael Martínez Fernández occupied the seventeenth position among the 30 competitors who participated in the individual triathlon final.

The total time recorded by Martínez Fernández in the three tests, swimming, cycling and running, was 1 hour 03 minutes: 41 seconds.

In the women’s final, Dominican participants Johenny Altagracia Feliz Santana and Jolgina Medina Feliz were disqualified and could only compete in the swimming event.

In the aquatic section, Feliz Santana did the time of 15:23:00 and Medina Feliz timed 17: 58: .00.

ARC SHOT

The fight, held at the Miguel Calero Hockey Coliseum in Cali, ended with the superiority of the American Nickolas over the Dominican (31-4).

MALE VOLLEYBALL

CYCLING

The Dominican cyclists of the BMX and Mountain modalities culminated their participation this Saturday.

Angélica María Peralta finished 16th in women’s BMX, after finishing fifth in the first and second races, and sixth in the third of heat 2.

In men’s BMX, Jeremy Marchena finished 17th, after reaching sixth place in the first two races and fifth in the third.

In the men’s mountain biking event, Juan Ángel Tapia did not compete, and in the women’s event, Stefania Fiorentino Pichardo registered less than three laps.
