Judoka Patrick Weisser from TUS Bad Aibling competed in the international “Judo Bremen Masters 2021”.

After the journey was a bit bumpy due to a technical defect in the bus of the Bavarian Judo Association, the young judoka from Aiblingen, the third in the German U21 championships (we reported), started the tournament in the weight class up to 66 kg with high-class international starters.

The young Aibling athlete lost the opening encounter against James Gray from Great Britain and unexpectedly found himself in the consolation round after this bad start.

Then Weisser tried to focus again and went into his second fight, against Gabriel Melendez from the Netherlands. In this fight, too, he was first thrown Wazaari and then found himself in a grab hold. The situation seemed hopeless. However, he was able to free himself from this hold 15 seconds before the end, went straight into the attack and was able to score points with the final gong and level with a Ko-uchi-maki-komi throw. With a tie on the scoreboard, the two fighters went into extra time (golden score), where Weisser could throw his opponent again and win this fight after this energy performance.

Motivated by this victory, the third encounter, against Andre Lobada from Hamburg, was on, which the young judoka from Bad Aibling was able to throw after a short time and purposefully and with a deep Seoi-nage throw, which gave him the early and direct victory.

The fourth fight initially looked similar to fight 2 for Weisser, but in his favor. He was able to throw his opponent, Dan Teodor Covaciu from Romania, after a minute of fighting time and then fix it in a clamp. The Romanian was unable to free himself from this either, which meant another victory for Weisser on his account.

After the previous and strong encounters, he finally reached the battle for third place, the small final that he did not want to give up lost.

He reconsidered his strengths, went purposefully against Viktor Becker from Saxony on the mat and was able to throw this opponent with a single throw (O uchi Gari) Ippon and thereby secure the well-deserved bronze medal in the well-attended junior tournament .

Patrick Weisser: “I am happy that after the botched start I won the bronze medal in this strong field, the second in Bremen in my fighting career so far.”
