Players Seth Curry, Tobias Harris and Cameroonian Joel Embiid joined forces on Monday to lead the Philadelphia 76ers to a 101-96 victory over the Orlando Magic in the NBA.

Curry scored a total of 24 points, Harris 17 and Embiid 16 and 13 rebounds for the Sixers, who made several free throws in the last minute to clear the danger and keep the lead on the scoreboard.

Orlando showed determination in a fiery second half and rallied from a 16-point deficit to tie the score at 93 on a dunk by Mo Bamba with 57 seconds left, but the Sixers held on with shots from the sentencing line.

Ty Maxey made four free throws and Embiid made three of four to help the Sixers take the victory.

Franz Wagner led the Magic offense with 27 points and Jalen Suggs followed with 17 points.

The Sixers, the best team in the Eastern Conference last season, have suffered many injuries and illnesses this season. Embiid missed nine games due to COVID-19 and Harris and Danny Green were out of the game due to league protocols for the pandemic.

Also add the season-long absence of Australian All-Star Ben Simmons following his trade demand.

The Heat slip at home

In Miami, the local Heat lost 120-111 to the Denver Nuggets, despite the 24 points and 13 sacks of center Bem Adebayo, although they felt the absence of star Jimmy Butler.

For Denver, the star of the night was the Serbian and current MVP Nikola Jokic, who overflowed with 24 cards, 15 balls recovered under the boards and seven assists. Jokic hadn’t played in the last four games due to a wrist injury.

Forward Aaron Gordon seconded him with 20 points.

In the local team, point guard Kyle Lowry with 17 points and 14 assists, Max Strus with 19 points and Caleb Martin with 18 points also stood out.

A 12-0 Nuggets offense in the second quarter, after Miami missed 10 consecutive shots, put Denver up 50-35. They finally went into the intermission with a 63-43 lead, the biggest deficit the Heat have faced at intermission so far this season.

With the victory, the Nuggets snapped a six-game losing streak, also thanks to 19 goals from Bones Hyland, 14 from Will Barton and 10 points and five assists from Argentine Facundo Campazzo, which included two triples in his performance.

Denver also outscored Miami 18-15 on triples and 16-10 on free throws.
