BG Göttingen: That’s why the Violets parted ways with Dickey and Bryant

How did basketball Bundesliga club BG Göttingen cope with the two defeats against Hamburg and Munich, and how does the team cope with the departures of center James Dickey and guard Zack Bryant? The answer will be given on Saturday from 6 p.m. when the violets will compete in the eleventh place in the MLP Academics Heidelberg. Two things were already clear on Friday: The BG had to get by in Heidelberg without an attachment, as only 750 spectators were allowed to watch the game, a limit that is already reached by season ticket holders. And: There will be no short-term additional obligation until the tip-off.

“It’s difficult to be without two players early in the season. But now we have to try to find a real replacement, ”said head coach Roel Moors on Friday to the daily newspaper. “It’s not about finding the ideal player, but we have to see what is possible. That can take a few more weeks. ”

It is of course known that Philipp Hartwich has a lot of work to do, but the center also tends to negotiate fouls early and have to go to the bank. “It’s my job to find solutions to this,” Moors emphasized. The rotation, which is now manageable with ten players, is not a problem, “because we currently don’t have more than one game per week”. Against Heidelberg, the departure of the two Americans must be compensated collectively.

It was not only in the game against Bayern that Moors missed his team’s penetration in the zone. “That was always a problem in the games we won too. We need a bit more balance in the team, ”said the Belgian. “You can’t always expect Toolson, Baldwin and Brown to win the games for us.”

Basically, Dickey is a player who expects a lot from himself, “but it got less and less from week to week,” said Moors. “That led to him having a problem with self-esteem. So I asked him, James, do you think you can turn this situation around? He said it was very difficult. So it was better to part. He fought for two or three months and I tried to keep him. But he wasn’t ready for the level yet. ”

It was different with Bryant: “When we signed him, I promised in zero minutes. It was a long-term project, ”said Moors. “Then a mental and disciplinary problem developed. In the end he wasn’t even satisfied with 15 minutes of working time. ”

On the other hand, the BG head coach does not want to rate the discussion about the violets’ weakness in assisting too highly: “We also had a very low assist rate last year.” Place in the BBL, but also in the points. You have to see that together. At the moment we’re not playing the ideal basketball, ”explained Moors, who has all the remaining players in Heidelberg, and means offensive weaknesses and the dependency on individual actions. “You can see that we are a collective in defense, but we lack some qualities for good team basketball in offense.”
