COVID-19 NBA: more than a third of the referees on the sidelines in order to respect the protocol

Adrian Wojnarowski de ESPN reported Thursday that COVID-19 was not hitting players and coaches across the NBA circuit in large numbers, but officials as well.

He mentioned that a high this season of 36% of league officials are in COVID-19 protocol. Since 25 of the 70 NBA officials are currently in quarantine, the NBA has turned to G League referees for some of its games.

In the past, the NBA has had no choice but to send only two officials for a game instead of the required three, but the League hopes they don’t go down that route too often.

The NBA has let it be known that each of its officials is doubly vaccinated and it wants each referee to have received an additional dose by Wednesday.
