He’s crazy: Viktor Axelsen wins the season final without any problems | BT Badminton

Viktor Axelsen is the world’s best badminton player at the moment.

The Danish world star has just put a thick line under this by winning the BWF World Tour Finals.

Viktor Axelsen did not have the shadow of problems with defeating Kunlavut Vitidsarn from Thailand in two sets with the crushing figures 21-12, 21-8.

This is 27-year-old Axelsen’s seventh individual title in the current calendar year.

The Dane, who recently won first place in the world rankings from Japanese Kento Momota, won the Super 1000 tournament Indonesia Open last Sunday.

Kunlavut Vitidsarn bit a little off in the first set in Sunday’s final. The Thai defended well at times against offensive Axelsen and pressured the Dane to make a few mistakes.

Vitidsarn followed to 13-12, but then Axelsen increased the tempo. He totally cracked the opponent who on Saturday surprisingly beat Lee Zii Jia from Malaysia.

Axelsen won the last eight balls in the first set, and he continued to mash his opponent in the second set, which was relatively quickly overtaken by a surplus-filled Dane.

Shortly after his victory, he was presented with his gold medal by the president of the International Badminton Federation (BWF), Danish Poul-Erik Høyer.

Viktor Axelsen can look back on a formidable 2021. He has reached the final in 10 out of 12 individual tournaments in 2021.

Seven of them he has won, two were lost in close matches, while corona infection prevented him from competing in the European Championship final.

Axelsen won supreme Olympic gold in Tokyo. He has also won the Super 1000 tournaments Yonex Thailand Open, Toyota Thailand Open, Denmark Open and Indonesia Open and thus now the season finale.

On Friday, he was crowned as the male player of the year in the world in 2020-2021. He was the first Dane to win a season prize since 1999, when one prize was awarded across genders, and Camilla Martin won it.

Axelsen has the opportunity to put even more on top of his great season, when the World Cup starts in a week in Spanish Huelva.
