1860 Munich: DFB Cup cracker against KSC – football

Time to write another chapter in cup history!

On Tuesday (6.30 p.m., live on Sky) in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup against second division Karlsruher SC for the third division lions: victories for fame and money!

1.24 million euros will flow into the quarter-finals. 1860 last stood there 14 years ago and lost 1-0 to FC Bayern – via a penalty by Franck Ribéry in the 120th minute. This season, the record champions were knocked out in the second round 0:5 in Gladbach…

At least in the cup, the lions are number 1 in the city – and among 16 clubs also the last Bavarian representative.

After beating Schalke 1-0 in the previous round, will the lions now achieve the next cup sensation?

KSC sports director Oliver Kreuzer (56) to BILD: “There are no favorites.”

1860 coach Michael Köllner (52) vehemently contradicts: “Even if I agree with Mr. Kreuzer in everything else, KSC is the favorite! We have to surpass ourselves, we need a strong game. There must be a fire burning in every player.”

Karlsruhe, currently tenth in the second division, made it into the round of 16 with a 2-1 win at Bundesliga club Leverkusen. With Darmstadt (2nd place) and Schalke (6th place), 1860 have already kicked out two second division clubs this season.

Köllner sees a tiny advantage if it comes to penalties: “If we achieve that, we’ll almost have them on the verge of defeat. That will definitely be psychologically advantageous for us.”

Bitter for 1860, however: Marius Willsch (30/patellar tendon irritation) is out, Yannick Deichmann has to help out as a full-back.
