1860 Munich: Ex-Boss Kreuzer reveals a secret before the cup – football

Will the lions succeed in the next cup coup?

Five years ago, DFB Cup history”>TSV 1860 Munich was in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup for the last time. Back then, Lotte won 2-0. The lions were in the second division, Lotte in the third division.

On Tuesday (6.30 p.m.) second division club Karlsruher SC will come to the Grünwalder Stadion for the round of 16 of the cup.

The winner collects 1.24 million euros!

KSC sports director Oliver Kreuzer (56) says to BILD: “There are no favourites. This is going to be a very hot fight. We don’t have anything to give away, everyone needs the money. We take the lions very seriously. We have to reach our upper performance limit.”

For cruisers, the focus is particularly on 1860 captain Stefan Lex (32).

In the previous round against Schalke it was the striker who scored in a sensational 1-0 win for 1860. And Kreuzer has a score to settle with him!

“We mustn’t let him come into play, he can make the difference,” says the former sports director of the lions (2015 to 2016).

Kreuzer reveals: “In 2018 I really wanted to bring Lex to the KSC, we had also met. He could have played in the second division here. In the end he chose the lions. Now he can annoy me again.”

When Kreuzer thinks back to his time with the lions, he becomes almost sentimental: “Unfortunately far too short. Despite my Red past (he played for Bayern from 1991 to 1997, ed.) They have grown on me. I had great people around me, especially at the office.”

He brought one of them to KSC: ex-lion hero Necat Aygün (41) is technical director of sports in Karlsruhe. Kreuzer: “He’s doing a great job, has developed further.”

If Kreuzer has his way, the lions can dream of promotion to the second division again this year: “The top nine in the third division can hope. The lions have the quality and a good coach.”

Is that enough to knock KSC out of the cup?
