2 matches behind closed doors for Standard and Beerschot after misconduct by fans | Jupiler Pro League

Sunday 5 December was not the most beautiful day in the history of Belgian football.

In the afternoon in Beerschot-Antwerp there was the crazy and life-threatening action of a home fan, who ran across the field and threw a flare into the Antwerp section. Even after the final whistle, the dolls were still dancing vigorously.

Later that evening, the Walloon clash between Standard and Charleroi also turned upside down. With a 0-3 score for the visitors, the Standard fans threw flares on the field.

After a short cooling-off period in the locker room, referee Laforge tried to give the match a second chance, but in the 87th minute the game was definitively stopped. That was the signal for an invasion of disgruntled Liège supporters on the field.

Beerschot and Standard now have to sit on the penalty bench: both clubs are sentenced to two home matches behind closed doors.

That measure is already in effect, since fans are not allowed in Belgian football stadiums due to the corona regulations. That is why the penalty will only be applied once the corona restrictions are relaxed.

The Disciplinary Committee of the RBFA has also set the final score in Standard-Charleroi at 0-3, the intermediate score during the unrest.
