300 hours of live broadcast on France Télévisions

The public service has acquired the rights to the competition and will offer unpublished coverage of the event on its antennas.

This is a first in the history of the Paralympic Games: the Paris 2024 events will be fully broadcast live! France Télévisions acquired yesterday, Monday January 17, the rights to the event which will take place from August 28 to September 8 in the city of light. An offer that complements the rights to the Olympic Games won by the public service in April 2019. “Obtaining the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games is a source of immense pride for France Télévisions, explains Delphine Ernotte Cunci, President of the group. With the Olympic Games, we will thus make the whole of the greatest sporting event of the next few years accessible to all French people. In 2024, therefore, all of Olympism and Paralympism will be present on public service channels, with the same exhibition ambition”.

All 22 disciplines broadcast

The broadcast will be exceptional and unprecedented with 300 hours of live (three times more than at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021) on the Francetv offer but also 24-hour exposure thanks to the relay between France 2 and France 3, the two channels broadcasting the tests. The twenty-two disciplines of the competition will thus be highlighted, which was not the case before. New Parisian sites will host certain para sports such as the Invalides with para archery, the gardens of the Palace of Versailles and para horse riding or the Grand Palais with wheelchair fencing and para taekwondo.

The organizers of Paris 2024 and France Télévisions are committed to highlighting the Paralympic disciplines and making them known to as many people as possible in order to change the way people view disability in society. “As the official broadcaster of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in France, France Télévisions will take media coverage and popular enthusiasm around the event to a new level., notes Tony Estanguet, President of Paris 2024. With this major public service audiovisual group, we share the same desire to highlight the Paralympic athletes and in particular the young generation who will make France win at Paris 2024, to introduce the French public to their performances and their unique journeys, and to seize this historic opportunity to permanently change society’s view of disability. Thus, the magazines of France Televisions like “All sport” and “Stade 2” but also the digital one will follow the course of the French athletes and will offer reports. To acquire the rights to the Paralympic Games, the public service has obviously put the means, even if the exact cost of the transaction has not been revealed, proving that France Télévisions believes in the potential of the competition. Note that last September, the Paralympic Games in Tokyo had gathered an average of 4.4 million fans each day.
