There was a killing spree on the campus of Heidelberg University on Monday afternoon. A lone gunman injured four people with a gun in a lecture hall at the medical school at 12:35 p.m., the police said. One of the four victims was critically injured, it said in security circles. The perpetrator is said to have shot himself.
According to dpa information, the man himself was a student. According to initial findings, he had no political or religious motives, it said. He even had several guns with him. An acute threat situation apparently no longer exists.

The police said: “We are not assuming that there will be other perpetrators.” To be on the safe side, the site will continue to be searched. There was initially no information on the identity of the injured.

The Neuenheimer Feld in front of the gates of Heidelberg’s old town is currently cordoned off over a large area.
