KOMPAS.com – PSSI is not in line with Shin Tae-yong regarding the inclusion of foreign players in the Indonesian U23 national team squad for the 2022 AFF U23 Cup.
The Indonesian U23 National Team will take part in the U23 AFF Cup on February 14-26 in Cambodia.
The Garuda Muda squad is the defending champion. They are in Group B with Malaysia, Myanmar and Laos.
Before entering the event, the Indonesian U23 national team will make preparations, including undergoing a match test.
The friendly match has been included in the Shin Tae-yong program and will likely be played by the U23 national team on FIFA Matchday this January.

So far, Bangladesh has been the leading option as a candidate against Indonesia in FIFA Matchday.

However, it is confirmed that Bangladesh will not be Indonesia’s opponent. The Covid-19 vaccination is the main reason. As a result, Indonesia’s opponent has yet to be determined.
“The match is part of coach Shin Tae-yong’s program for the 2022 AFF U23 Cup,” said PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi, as quoted from Antara News, Thursday (13/1/2022).
Yunus Nusi explained that Shin Tae-yong will soon go to Bali to look for players to strengthen the Red and White team on FIFA Matchday.
Incidentally, the 2021-2022 Liga 1 competition is being held in Bali and the FIFA Matchday is planned to be held on the Island of the Gods.

“Shin Tae-yong will leave for Bali on January 13, 2022 to see the children playing in League 1,” said Yunus Nusi
“Hopefully Shin Tae-yong will get the best players,” Yunus Nusi added.
Yunus Nusi hopes that the Indonesian U23 national team will not only be strengthened by local players, but also players who have careers abroad.
Because, Yunus Nusi saw that the Indonesian U23 national team had the opportunity to defend the title of the AFF U23 Cup champion.
“Hopefully the children who play abroad can also appear in Cambodia. We have a great chance to win the AFF U23 Cup,” said Yunus Nusi.

Yunus Nusi’s desire for foreign players to strengthen Indonesia in the 2022 AFF U23 Cup contradicts Shin Tae-yong’s decision.
The South Korean coach has confirmed that he will not call up four foreign players in the match, namely Egy Maulana Vikri, Witan Sulaeman, Elkan Baggott, and Asnawi Mangkualam.
