Adam Svensson rises among the leaders

American Russell Henley continues to lead the Sony Open after three rounds, but some of his competitors, including Canadian Hawaii“>Adam Svensson, came within striking distance on Saturday in Hawaii.

Henley gave his least convincing card of the tournament, a 67 (-3) which still allows him to climb to -18. He stalled three birdies, but bogeys at the fourth and 13th flags prevented him from increasing his lead at the top.

Svensson took advantage of this third day of competition in Honolulu to climb two positions and reach third place, tied with the Irishman Seamus Power, the American Matt Kuchar and the Chinese Haotong Li. His score of 65 (-5) placed him four shots behind the leader.

Henley’s main pursuer, however, will be Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama, who dropped seven strikes from par. He gained three ranks and is only two shots from the top.

The only other Canadian still in contention, Corey Conners lost feathers with a disappointing round of 69 (-1). Fifth at the start of the day, the Ontarian fell to 18th place, by virtue of a total of 200 strokes (-10).
