Ajdin Hrustic is a real pleasure for every employee in the communications department of a Bundesliga soccer club. The 25-year-old professional with Bosnian-Romanian roots, who grew up in Australia and therefore plays in the national team for this country, is selling himself and his situation at Frankfurter Eintracht brilliantly: eloquent, convincing, positive. There is not so much good to report about his career in Frankfurt – it is stagnating.
In his first season he was rarely used by coach Adi Hütter, in the second by coach Oliver Glasner only a little more often. Last Saturday, Hrustic was in the starting line-up against Borussia Dortmund for the fifth time this season, after failing to make it into the squad a few times in autumn. But it is not daring to claim that the midfielder would have sat on the reserve bench against BVB if Djibril Sow had not been out on short notice and Kristijan Jakic, who had just recovered, had been an option for the starting eleven.
The central midfielder Hrustic, who thinks and feels more offensively, but can also take on the defensive part, is in the hierarchy behind the two competitors mentioned, but also behind Sebastian Rode and Makoto Hasebe. Daichi Kamada and Jesper Lindström are currently set for the attack division in midfield. Therefore, Hrustic is considered one of the candidates who could leave Eintracht during the winter break in order to gain match practice with a competitor.
“I haven’t heard of that”
In the relevant Internet portals, the left-footer is associated with the Eintracht opponent of the coming Sunday (3:30 p.m. in the FAZ live ticker for the Bundesliga and at DAZN), FC Augsburg. According to media reports, Hrustic is even said to have been officially informed by Eintracht that it would be allowed to look for a new club.
“I haven’t heard anything about that,” Hrustic announced on Thursday in a virtual press round. He looked relaxed and relaxed. The fact that his departure from Frankfurt has been announced also leaves him calm: “As a player, you of course see a lot of messages on social media. But that doesn’t distract me from my job of playing football. ”Hrustic likes it at Eintracht, although he hasn’t been able to assert himself yet and that’s why he wants to keep fighting for a better role with all his might.
The Melbourne-born professional certainly provides arguments why Eintracht signed him a year and a half ago. He has a lot of feeling in his left foot, a hard shot and knows how to move around the room. In the jargon, such players are referred to as real “kickers”, players who know how to run the ball. But Hrustic has not yet been able to provide evidence that he is more helpful to unity with his skills than his colleagues around him. So far the last momentum has been missing, the last determination to really get his game through. And on the defensive he is not the big clearer either.
Perhaps, however, it just takes a little more game practice and a little more self-confidence to take the decisive step. He succeeded in doing this in the Australian national team. When he surprisingly got the chance to start last year in the World Cup qualifier against Qatar, he grabbed it by the head. Hrustic swung himself up to playmaker and scored a wonderful goal for his team’s 3-0 victory. Participation in the World Cup at the end of the year is the midfielder’s major career goal. “Of course it would help me for the national team if I had a regular place at Eintracht. I will do everything to make it and to be nominated for the World Cup. “
He feels that he is in good hands with Eintracht, he likes the city, the fans and coach Glasner also gives him the feeling of “being important, even if I don’t play from the start. That boosts my self-confidence. I appreciate that about the coach. ”The oral performance will not fail in his fight for the regular place.
