Alexander Blessin leaves Ostend to train Genoa

The surprise of this Wednesday evening comes from Ostend! The Coastal Coach Alexander Blessin is leaving his post to join Serie A and more specifically Genoa, the Ostend club announced on its website.

This is obviously a big loss for the KVO. Arrived last season in the Pro League, the German tactician quickly proved himself, finishing in a good fifth place with Ostend and winning the title of coach of the year in stride. This season is nevertheless more complicated for the people of Ostend who are struggling to maintain (15th with 23 points).

It all happened so fast. In 24 hours this case was settled, it is still difficult for me to understand. Because the transition was not yet in order, I was not physically able to say goodbye to the players even after training. I will definitely contact them to do so. I will miss the fans here too, they have always supported me through thick and thin, although it is all the more unfortunate that we have played our best season without spectators. Genoa is an offer I couldn’t refuse. It’s a traditional Serie A club and I’ve been offered a long-term project. It’s a big step in my career, but I will always be grateful to KVO for the opportunity I had here.“Blessin said in a statement.

In Italy, Alexander Blessin will be responsible for replacing the Ukrainian Andriy Shevchenko and put Genoa back on the right track. 19th, the Genoa club is already 6 points behind the first non-relegation player and will therefore have to fight to save themselves among the elite. The German will also have the opportunity to coach a certain Zinho Vanheusden.

He’s the deputy Markus Plant who will act as interim head of the coastal club.
