Beat Feuz had to settle for 2nd place during the descent from Wengen. The Bernese was overtaken by the Austrian Vincent Kriechmayr. A victory that will not fail to make people talk. The International Ski Federation had organized specific training on Friday to allow Kriechmayr to participate in the two descents of the weekend.
Forfeited for training due to quarantine but authorized to line up on Friday after being able to line up for a mock training round, Vincent Kriechmayr therefore deprived Beat Feuz of a historic 4th success on the Lauberhorn. The 30-year-old Austrian offered himself a 10th victory at this level.
“This 2nd place satisfies me”
Already victorious in 2019 in Wengen, Vincent Kriechmayr – who skis for a brand headed by FIS President Johan Eliasch – made the difference on the last third of the legendary Bernese track. Beat Feuz was still ahead of him by 0”01 after 1’27” of racing, but in particular missed his case in the final “S”.
“I didn’t deliver the perfect race, so this 2nd place satisfies me“, explained Beat Feuz. “There were better things to do, but it was difficult for everyone. So I’m already happy to be on the podium“, continued the Emmentalois, delighted to be able to rest a little after a “demanding week.“

“Odi” wrestling with the best
The disappointment is less for Marco Odermatt, 2nd the day before but on a shortened course. The Nidwalden prodigy negotiated the “Kernen-S” less well than Friday, failing 0”46 from the winner and 0”02 from the 3rd step of the podium occupied by Dominik Paris. But he confirms that he can now also play the win downhill.
