Edson Álvarez undergoes a medical check in Mexico, reports The Telegraph Monday afternoon. The midfielder of Ajax had to stop the World Cup qualifier between Mexico and Costa Rica (0-0) early due to a knee injury.

lvarez will reportedly receive a decision on Monday about the seriousness of his knee injury. According to The Telegraph the midfielder is hopeful that the damage is not too bad, because it concerns a contact moment and not a distortion. The morning newspaper adds that it is expected that Álvarez will return to Ajax as soon as possible to be examined again in Amsterdam.

Duration loss of points Mexico

The game between Mexico and Costa Rica ended in a 0-0 draw. The Mexicans still have a good chance of qualifying for the World Cup, although competitor Panama has come within one point. The numbers 1 to 3 qualify for the World Cup, while the number four will play the play-offs.

Ajax will play a home game with Heracles Almelo in the Eredivisie next Sunday. For the time being, it is unclear whether Álvarez can be present during that game.
