Ancelotti gives Hazard little hope: ‘He has the character to choose what’s best for his career’

Supercopa: Real Madrid wins again against FC Barcelona”>Eden Hazard finds himself increasingly in an impasse at Real Madrid. After having chained several consecutive games last December without any physical problem, the Devil has since been confined to the bench. Last week, he did not play a single minute in the two Supercopa matches, won by Madrid.

In a press conference before the King’s Cup match against Elche, Carlo Ancelotti announced that Courtois was not part of the group for private reasons but once again mentioned the Hazard case.

And the situation may well be unchanged for the Brainois this Thursday in the Cup: “I will field the best possible team against Elche but I will assess the fatigue of those who played on Sunday night”, he explained before killing the hopes of Brainois fans, “At the moment, I don’t think Vinicius is tired so I think he will be able to play. When his performance is less good, I will give him a rest but that’s not the case.”

As is the case at almost every press conference, the Italian coach also returned to the Devil’s personal situation and his absence from the field in recent weeks: “Nothing happened with Hazard apart from the fact that there is a lot of competition in the team and I have to choose the best possible XI in every game. It affects a lot of players, I can’t deny that. This also goes for others like Bale, Nacho, Ceballos, Isco or Jovic… At the moment he is training and waiting for my signal but I feel he will be ready when we need him.”

“A departure in January? At the moment he is still from Madrid. He is training with us, staying focused on the club and we are not thinking of anything else”, chained Ancelotti concerning a possible departure of the Belgian. But the Italian is aware that he can’t give Hazard what he wants, namely playing time: “I don’t have to advise Hazard. He has the character and the experience to choose what is best for his career.”

It’s not really the speech of a coach who wants to retain his player at all costs…
