The brotherhoods of archers have a tradition, a very particular shot: the goose shot. The tradition was respected again this year.
The archery-shooting/” title=”Pascaline Durand medalist in archery shooting”>Arc-club of Uzège, for a few years, brought this tradition up to date. “The living goose is replaced by a cast of a goose’s head extended from its neck.” This is how more than twenty archers, ie two thirds of the club, gathered on their practice to celebrate Christmas.
All archers shoot without a sight. For the cadets and juniors the target was a 3D goose posed at fifty meters. The junior, Samuel Pujante, from the first shot, hit his target. He was rewarded with a ready-to-cook duck. For adults, the shooting was more laborious, the target being very small and very far. It was Jérôme Deltour who won his ready-to-cook goose. Between each event, the Arc-club had planned wine and hot chocolate to warm up. But the morning was not over for these brave archers. The club had planned two old-fashioned shots, said “from the Turkish head”. “Nowadays, it is quite obvious that the Turk’s head is replaced by a pumpkin.”
The shot was won by Marion Deschamps and Benoît Cerveau at 40m, that at 50m by Audrey Renault.
Traditional parties like this one within the club, allow a gathering of staff on an activity.
All members of the Arc-club de l’Uzège will now train for the Saint-Sébastien festival which will take place on Thursday 20 January, for precision shooting, still without a sight and this time at ten- eight meters.
