Archery: in Macerata the Paralympic indoor tricolors: the Tokyo blues in competition

Over the weekend at the Palascodella the first archery event of the new season: the Olympians will play the tricolor and the call-up for the Dubai World Cup

Macerata, elected European City of Sport 2022, will host the first federal event of the new archery season. The 35th Italian Indoor Para-Archery Championship organized by Sagitta Arcieri Pesaro will be hosted at the Palasport Fontescodella on 29 and 30 January. About 80 archers from all over Italy are expected to compete in the recurvo open, compound open, W1 and visually impaired categories who will compete for the class titles at the end of the 60 qualifying arrows and, subsequently, will be engaged in direct clashes on 18 meters to compete for the individual absolute Italian titles. Due to covid-19, the team matches will not be played in Macerata which, starting from 2022, will see an important change of regulation implemented in Italy starting from 1 April: the team competition with the male and female trio will be replaced by the “double”, which foresees two athletes per team instead of three.

BLUE ON A WORLD VIEW

On the competitive side it will be a top-level appointment since the athletes of the National Para-Archery will be competing. The protagonists of Tokyo 2020 will be on the shooting line to fight for the Italian titles after the successes obtained at Yumenoshima Park Archery Field, where Italy has won at least one podium for the tenth consecutive edition, thanks to the individual medals won by Enza Petrilli and Maria andrea Virgilio, as well as that of the mixed team signed by Elisabetta Mijno and Stefano Travisani. The appointment in Macerata is particularly important also because the blues will have the opportunity to confront each other in view of the calls for the Dubai Outdoor World Cup which, in the middle of winter, will see the blues compete in the United Arab Emirates from 19 to 27 February over long distances. In fact, in recent months, the training of the National team has alternated between indoor and outdoor. To defend the absolute Italian title won last year in Reggio Calabria there will be Diego Garavaglia and the blue Elisabetta Mijno in the curved open; in the compound open the nationals Paolo Cancelli and Maria Andrea Virgilio; in the W1 Daniele Cassiani and among the Visually Impaired Giovanni Maria Vaccaro. In Macerata there are also 12 new medical classifications of athletes who will participate in the competition for the first time, increasing the number of Paralympic agonists.

PROGRAM

The competition program foresees the medical classifications at the Palasport Fontescodella for the day of Friday 28 January, in addition to the accreditation phases of the archers. On Saturday 29 January the real competition will start, starting at 8:10 am, with the opening ceremony, followed by the 60 ranking round arrows that assign the class titles and establish the scoreboard of direct matches for the absolute tricolors. The individual eliminatory phases will also be played during the day. On Sunday 30 January, from 8.30, the finals for the open Olympic bronze, compound open, W1 and visually impaired will be played, while from 14 the start of the challenges that are worth the absolute Italian title, followed by the award ceremony and closing.
