Arminia Bielefeld’s Patrick Wimmer likes to do something crazy. In the 2-0 (2-0) win at Eintracht Frankfurt, he also managed to do so impressively on the Bundesliga stage. First the Austrian scored the fastest goal (5th minute) for the East Westphalians after their return to the Oberhaus in Friday’s game, then he set another highlight with the splendid preparatory work to make it 2-0 with the so-called “Rabona” trick on it.
“During training, you tend to try it for fun. I didn’t trust my left foot in that situation,” the smart 20-year-old midfielder explained when he crossed his legs to Alessandro Schöpf (27′). He steered the ball into the goal with his chest to make it 2-0. “If it doesn’t turn out that way, I’ll probably be accused of arrogance or something. Luckily it went well,” emphasized Wimmer, whose action, according to the Bundesliga homepage, would lead to “a goal for every Bundesliga season review”.
enthusiasm in Austria
In his home country of Austria, the U21 international sparked enthusiasm with the famous assist. “Sensational!” was the headline of the “Kronen-Zeitung” in its online edition on Saturday night. “Patrick Wimmer shone in Bielefeld’s victory with a goal and an assist worth seeing,” wrote the “Kleine Zeitung”.
Bielefeld goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, on the other hand, did not want to praise his team-mate unreservedly. “Sometimes it excites you, sometimes it drives you crazy. If he works on the basics, he can go further,” said the goalkeeper. Ortega, on the other hand, sees an unreservedly good perspective for Bielefeld in the relegation battle. “You should definitely not write us off,” he emphasized after the fifth game in a row without defeat.
Arminia coach Frank Kramer was also enthusiastic about Wimmer’s stroke of genius. “Patrick sometimes does crazy things in training. He did a great job today and decided the game,” he said. At the same time, after Arminia’s good run, he warned against being arrogant and, above all, against not letting up: “We are very happy to have won the game, will enjoy the weekend and then continue to work hard.”
