Frank Arnesen is very happy with the transfer of Patrik Walemark to Feyenoord. The technical director of the team from Rotterdam is, like trainer Arne Slot, enthusiastic about the qualities of the twenty-year-old Swedish winger.
Walemark played for small Qviding until he was eighteen, after which BK Häcken gave him a chance. There he quickly conquered a starting spot. “To explode in its second season,” Arnesen tells Football International. “Actually, it’s unbelievable what that boy shows, because in fact he has no education at all.”
In 29 games at the highest level, Walemark was good for nine goals and eight assists. “He has good technique and a refined left leg,” says Arnesen about the right winger. “Patrik is a stylist. That is important to us, because check: we didn’t have left-footed players in the front yet, did you? Moreover, he can also function as number ten.”
Slot is also impressed. “Arne is crazy about him”, the Dane knows, “and I can understand that. Like Cole Bassett, he fits the profile and policy that we now have: young, talented players who can develop further, make the team better and also represent value again.”
Feyenoord reportedly pays 3.25 million euros for the Swedish youth international, who was also previously in the picture at Ajax. “They are looking a few categories higher,” Arnesen says about the competitor. “Those who think of Steven Bergwijn. Unfeasible for us, but we are happy with Walemark.”
