This January 28, the 169th anniversary of the dawn of Martí, Fernando and Luis Alberto once again climbed to the top of the podium, as they did at the Tokyo-2020 Olympic Games. In the Japanese event, rivals of great magnitude tried to prevent them, but yesterday it was not like that, because their teachers, their coaches and their country led them to this other victory.
The champions under the five rings, Fernando Dayán Jorge and Luis Alberto Orta, were awarded, at the coliseum of the Ciudad Deportiva de La Habana, the titles that accredit them as university graduates, in the specialty of Physical Culture and Sports.
They were part of the 900 who, at the 44th graduation of the University of Physical Culture and Sports Sciences, received their Bachelor’s degrees. Together with them, taekwondo athlete Rafael Alba and boxer Lázaro Álvarez, both bronze medalists in the Tokyo event, signed their parchments.
After the effort, the record, in short, the victory, we always see that comforting hug that the invincible Paralympic queen gives to her guide, Yuniol Kindelán, who on the evening itself then received the same handshake from all over Cuba, show his crowned work at the academy.
Eruslandy Savón and Zuriam Hechavarría have made their anthem heard at the award ceremonies of world championships, boxing and athletics, respectively, they are also licensed. The Pan-American judo champion, Maylin del Toro, also graduated from the house of high studies, as did the Olympic pentathlete Leidy Laura Moya.
Today, their studies expired, it favors them to be more prepared, they will better interpret the circumstances of each competitive level, they will better assimilate the indication of their coaches, and they will be able to be part —together with them— of the planning process in the face of a result. But, those titles, like the medals, are only part of the way, because now they are able to, from research, contribute to innovation and pay tribute to that knowledge plus their experiences on a court, a ring, the wrestling mat, or running track.
With the 900 who completed their undergraduate studies on January 28, there are already 120,000 graduates from the University of Physical Culture and Sports Sciences, a whole army so that sports continue to be a right of the people.
