Asvel loses big against Bayern Munich in Euroleague

The blow is harsh. Faced with Bayern Munich, a team with the same balance sheet before the meeting (9 wins, 11 losses), Asvel could not get by on their floor this Tuesday evening (68-77 defeat) in a bitter fight for the Euroleague play-offs.

Already beaten in the first leg, the Villeurbannais have nevertheless put energy and desire, with in particular the return of Elie Okobo from injury. Yes, but opposite, the Germans had not come to amuse the gallery.

However, from the start of the match, Chris Jones tried to ignite the Astroballe with a magnificent blind pass that ended with two points. But Augustine Rubit and her partners had made the trip with the sights. All the attempts of the local players were indeed annihilated by long distance shots.

At the break, Bayern were 16 points ahead (29-45) with an astonishing 82.3% (70% over the whole match) shooting success (50% from three points) including an award-winning Lucic at the buzzer. TJ Parker fidgeted on his bench trying to find solutions by telling his players to use their hands even more to hinder opposing shots.

But opposite, despite Corey Walden’s injury exit (shock on the ankle on contact with Kahudi), the machine was well oiled. Rubit went there with his 17 points (10 rebounds), well helped by the composure of Andreas Obst (10 points), just enough to prevent Asvel from returning to the game, despite Youssoupha Fall’s 14 points.

This success, Bayern Munich’s first in its history at the Astroballe, allows the Germans to turn on the right side, while Asvel finds itself on the wrong side of the slope with a meeting against FC Barcelona on Thursday.
