ATP 250 Adelaide: Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech beats compatriot Corentin Moutet and reaches his first ATP final

The tennis planet revolves around Australia. Because the participation, or not, of Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open arouses immense attention? Yes, but things happen on the courts, too. On Friday, Arthur Rinderknech thus reached an unprecedented milestone in his career, in Adelaide.

The 26-year-old Frenchman qualified for his first final on the ATP circuit, in this case in ATP 250. For this, Rinderknech had to dismiss his compatriot Corentin Moutet. “It was a tough match, in our heads, he estimated after his 6-1, 6-3 victory. I think everyone knows what a meeting between two players from the same country can mean.”

“It’s a new step forward”

But the 58th in the world did not seem to be parasitized by this, especially in service, since he only lost three points on his commitment. This allows him to confirm his good start to the season (five wins in seven matches, including one in the ATP Cup) and to continue his late rise.

It is a great accomplishment. I am very happy to be in the final. It is a new step forward. I made a half last summer in Kitzbühel and now… final in the first tournament of the year“, rejoices Rinderknech, who is preparing to participate in the Australian Open (January 17-30), where a first round against Alexei Popyrin awaits him.

Before that, to check the box “first title on the main circuit“, he will have to triumph over a big client: the Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis who brought down the Croatian Marin Cilic (6-2, 3-6, 7-6) in a fiery atmosphere later in the day. Rinderknech will have therefore entitled to an electric baptism of fire in the final on Saturday.
