In the shock of Group D, Nigeria clearly dominated Egypt (1-0). The Super Eagles took the ascendancy from the start of the game and secured the victory thanks to a superb goal from Kelechi Iheanacho.

For its entry into CAN-2022, Nigeria hit hard, Monday, January 11, by offering themselves a victory in the shock against Egypt (1-0) in Group D.

From the start of the meeting, the Super Eagles show more desire and enthusiasm. On the left side, FC Nantes striker Moses Simon hurts the Egyptian defense with his speed and overflows. Served by Joe Aribo, he misses the first opportunity of the meeting (27th) by finding only the small net of the Egyptian goal.

But three minutes later, the same Moses Simon is at the start of the action leading to the first goal. His cross in the box was pushed back by the Egyptian defense on his teammate Joe Aribo, who headed back to Kelechi Iheanacho. The Leicester striker then takes the ball with a superb half-volley in the axis at the entrance of the surface which ends in the opposing window.

With this goal, Nigeria opens its counter and signs one of the most beautiful achievements of this start of CAN-2022. Stunned, the Egyptians continue to blame. Unable to place their game, they suffered multiple Nigerian attacks. Before halftime, Moses Simon continues his explosive festival, but without finding the net.

After the break, the physiognomy of the match remains the same. Nigeria is recovering strongly. In the 48th minute, on a cross from Ola Aina, Taiwo Awoniyi took a header from close range, but Egyptian goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy pushed back in extremis.

Completely asphyxiated, the Pharaohs undergo the rhythm imposed by the Super Eagles. Also in leg, Kelechi Iheanacho misses his right foot control (57th) while he is isolated in the area in the axis. Relatively absent so far, Egyptian star Mohamed Salah only offers himself a real opportunity: the Liverpool striker sneaks into the Nigerian area, but his shot is stopped by a nice exit from goalkeeper Maduka Okoye (71st).
