The final of the Australian Open 2022 women’s singles took place at Rod Laver Arena, Saturday (29/1/2022) afternoon WIB. Barty started well, with his aces hitting Collins under pressure.
At 3-2, Barty managed to break thanks to a double fault from Collins. It became the momentum for the host tennis player to open the difference to 5-2.
Collins had won the eighth game and held Barty at 3-5, but Barty did not waver. The first seed won the set 6-3.
A dramatic battle ensued in the second set, as Collins started off in a frenzy. The American made two breaks to lead 5-1 in the first six games.
But Barty didn’t just let the game go. Right after Collins’ break in the sixth game, Barty responded with another break that stopped his opponent’s momentum.
Barty won four games in a row, including another break, to level the points at 5-5. In that position, Collins was able to maintain his service game to regain a 6-5 lead.
In that crucial phase, Barty, who opened the 12th game with an ace, then took the set and equalized the score again 6-6. Both players entered a tie-breaker, with Barty hitting three winners while Collins was full of unforced errors.
Barty also ensured himself the champion with a 6-3 and 7-6 victory. He finally won the Australian Open for the first time, as well as his third Grand Slam title, having previously won the French Open and Wimbledon.
