Australian Open: Carolina (16) from Fürth dreams of Wimbledon – sports mix

Zverev, Kerber and Krawietz/Mies – all out! The last German at the Australian Open is 16 years old and comes from Fürth.

Carolina Kuhl will play her junior quarterfinals against Charlotte Kempenaers-Pocz (17/Australia) that night. But no matter how it turns out, her name is making the rounds first.

For the talent from TV Fürth 1860 it is the Grand Slam premiere. Accordingly, the experiences rain down on them. “I ran past Rafael Nadal and could also see a match from him. What an experience! Meet the pros in the fitness room. It’s impressive to see how things are going there,” she says.

Her big dream: “Winning Wimbledon would be cool.” But it’s a long way to go. It should lead to the Porsche Talents team and the sports school in Mannheim, where she goes twice a week. “I Fürth cannot coordinate school and training. I’m missing a lot, that’s no problem in Mannheim. Here in Melbourne, too, I get my homework online,” says the eleventh grader.

The home training does not take place in Fürth either, but with ex-professional Marcello Craca (47) in Regensburg, in the academy of Michael Geserer (52). A year ago, he had led Jennifer Brady (26) to the Mebourne final.

Carolina’s role models: “I like Naomi Osaka, she’s cool in her own way. I also like Emma Raducanu.” How does Carolina see her game? “I’ve often been told that Angelique Kerber and I play relatively similarly. We are both left-handed. That’s why I’ve watched them a lot.”

And Kerber has already won Wimbledon…
