The Plus has had two difficult years. The Belgian round talent broke through at the cycling top in 2019 with the overall victory in the Benelux Tour, but then the steep advance of De Plus slowed down completely.
In the corona year 2020, stomach problems and a hip injury kept him sidelined for almost the whole year, in 2021 he suffered from a kind of cycling burnout, when the diagnosis was “viral fatigue”. In two years, he only got 24 match days.
But those dark days now seem to be a thing of the past. De Plus has had a good winter and will be at the start of a cycling race, the Star of Bessèges, for the first time in 10 months next week.
By the way, De Plus gets a strong team at Ineos, including Michal Kwiatkowski, Filippo Ganna and Richard Carapaz. The French stage race starts on Wednesday and ends on Sunday.
