Coach and development manager within l’AUC Badminton, 2022/02/adapted-sport-badminton-a-championship-for-a-place-in-the-nationals/” title=”ADAPTED SPORT / BADMINTON: A championship for a place in the nationals”>Lucas Petit tells us about his year 2021 and talks about some prospects for 2022.
Your best memory with your club this season?
In view of the season we have just experienced, I will say that my best memory of the season was returning to the field last June. It was more than a relief to be able to return to the gyms and I think it was for all members and athletes in general. It was a pleasure to be able to meet again, and it was felt with a good atmosphere on and off the field.
The worst memory with the club this season?
To oppose my best memory of the season, I will say that the worst was the inability to be able to access the pitches between November 2020 and June 2021. Not being able to practice this sport that I love so much has been extremely frustrating, but I still take some positive things from this period, it allowed me to realize that badminton is really important to me and that the practice was really lacking.
The Amiens athlete or team of the year according to you?
In view of the sporting season we have spent, I find it hard to see myself selecting a single athlete, or even a single team. Internally, I would just like to highlight all the people who participated, if only occasionally, in the activities that the club has set up during the period of prohibition from practice. The participations made it possible to maintain the link between the members on all the remote activities, whether it is on video training, quiz evenings or even the running competition that we have set up.
What is your biggest emotion in sport this year?
Even if this is not necessarily a big personal emotion, I would like to talk about the results of the French at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo, in Parabadminton. The title in men’s singles (SL4 category) for Lucas MAZUR, who also leaves Silver medal in mixed doubles with Faustine NOEL. They have both made their mark on both the Paralympic Games and the world of badminton. The discipline made its first entry into the Paralympic program. To date, the media coverage of our sport remains low but in view of these results, the badminton world can hope for more visibility, and this has already been felt on their return from Tokyo, now, it must continue in the weather.
What can we wish you in terms of sport for the year 2022?
As a first step, you can wish us to live a complete season, without interruption of our sporting practice, but also a maximum of sporting results whether it is for adults or for young people. In addition, it is important that we can continue to build projects as we are currently doing, whether internally with our members or on the development of actions with the Departmental Handisport Committee of the Somme, the Departmental Adapted Sport Committee of the Somme, the CCAS and the schools.
If you are given an envelope of 500,000 euros what do you do with it?
With this envelope, the project would be to build a gymnasium dedicated to the practice of badminton in order to be able to offer more slots to members but also to be able to accommodate more audiences and also to develop more projects.
