The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations has been marred by incidents on the pitch. This time there was a scuffle between players in the Gabon vs Ghana duel.
The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations with all its controversies has become a hot spot for football fans. Starting from the referee who twice ended the Tunisia vs Mali match earlier, to the wrong play of the Mauritania national anthem.
The most recent incident occurred in the second match of the group phase, namely Gabon vs Ghana in Group C. The duel took place at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium, Saturday (15/1/2022) early morning WIB.
Andre Ayew brought Ghana ahead in the 18th minute. Victory The Black Stars dispersed after Gabon equalized two minutes before normal time ran out via Jim Allevinah’s goal.
Citing a report The Sun, a commotion broke out after the referee blew the final whistle. Several players were seen crowding and pushing on the field.
The commotion got hotter when one of the Ghana players, Benjamin Tetteh, threw a raw ball at Aaron Boupendza. The Gabon striker immediately fell while holding his face.
Tetteh’s actions made several Gabon players furious and tried to attack him. Security officers immediately moved to secure the situation.
The referee asked Tetteh to return to the field and gave him a red card. The mainstay of Ghana’s players is confirmed to be absent in the third match of Group C against the Comoros, Tuesday (18/1).
Ghana must win the match against the Comoros in order to qualify for the next round. Thomas Partey et al are currently stuck in third place in Group C with one point, behind Morocco (6 points) and Gabon (4 points) who will clash with each other in the third match.
