Legendary Lions running back Barry Sanders spoke about the team’s season

Although Detroit Lions They did not have a good 2021-22 season, they managed to finish the previous year and start the new one with great momentum.

Over the last six weeks of the season, the team managed to go 3-3 after starting winless in the first 11 games. While it may not seem like much of an accomplishment, it was a remarkable thing for the team given all of their struggles during the early part of the season. That finish was remarkable to everyone who follows the team closely, including former running back Barry Sanders.

At The Pat McAfee Show, Sanders was asked about how the team played this year. Although he admitted that the season was difficult, he found many positive points, such as the great victories over teams that were struggling to qualify for the playoffs.

“Of course it was a tough year, Pat, but if you look at the last month and a half of the season, we won three games, and lost a couple of others. In the last game of the year we beat a division rival that will play in the playoffs,” Sanders said in the interview. “You know about this, Pat, you’ve played in the league. Sometimes there is a very small margin between the top teams, those in the middle, and those that are further down. I know that Coach Campbell understood that he was going to have to work very hard before the season started. We are rebuilding, but I saw a great fighting spirit in the team. We saw the players giving everything they had until the end. It’s good to see that. Now we are seeing who will continue down this path and who will not be part of the team next season. But without a doubt there are things that we can rescue from this year. Beating the Cardinals at home this year was another great moment.”

Of Detroit’s two wins, those two were arguably the most important, so Sanders is correct in what he said. Those wins also raise hopes that the Lions can take on the best teams in the league in the future. And that is why it is easy to understand that those were the best moments of the 2021-22 season for the team.

Sanders believes in Dan Campbell

A big reason for that momentum and those victories was Dan Campbell’s work as a trainer. Campbell kept the team together on and off the field, and that made a big impression on Sanders, who admitted he had heard about Campbell when the team started looking for coaches and has maintained a good impression of the coach all season. According to Sanders, the Lions are expected to support Campbell in every way possible so he can be successful.

“We know he comes from a winning culture. He knows how he feels and I hope we can give him all the tools he needs to turn things around here,” Sanders told McAfee.

And that’s the plan for the Lions, who need to find a way to keep rebuilding.

Sanders tweeted his delight at how the Lions finished 2021

It was clear that Sanders was very impressed by the Lions watching them in Week 18. The former elite running back watched the Lions play a brave game against the Green Bay Packers in week 18, and admitted that he was very impressed by the team’s performance.

Sanders posted a tweet saying he was impressed with the Lions as a player this year and loved the fighting spirit the team displayed.

“I loved how the team fought all year,” Sanders tweeted. “Win or lose, the team showed incredible fighting spirit. #arugirporel2022 and for achieving great things!”

Sanders is correct when he says big things can be expected for the team, especially since the coaching staff is likely to return and the team has a lot of young guys capable of making big plays. Sanders follows these things very closely, so it makes sense that he feels confident from what he sees on the team.

“These words are a great reason for Lions fans to feel confident about the direction the franchise is taking, and Sanders believes in the team fervently.
