Baseball: La Pocatière leaves the Puribec League and Trois-Pistoles is in reflection

They will not be back for the 2022 season. The board of directors of this team did not like the direction this circuit was taking. The growing number of outside players in this league as well as the salaries paid to players are among these reasons.

“This is the direction the league was taking, having more and more outside players and we weren’t ready to be comfortable with that, we are more for a local league with players of the place. If we were on board, the financial situation would be very different for the team at La Pocatière, the account would be empty, of course the account would be empty. Because the best players, it is not wrong to say that it is $ 300-400 per game, ”noted the president of the board of this team, Éric Miville.

The Bérubé GM of Trois-Pistoles is also considering whether or not he will return to this league next summer. The leaders deplore a toxic atmosphere with the president of this league.

Here is the press release written by this team:

Following the last league baseball reunion PURIBEC, we understood that our differences with the Board of Directors of the League are insoluble and that our demands, legitimate as they are, will never be heard.

During the last series, the president of the league and the Trois-Pistoles team made a mistake. That of the president was, according to the statements of the governors, to have given authorizations without having respected the regulation voted by these same governors. Ours is to have placed our trust in the President of the League.

So, after the governors vote, the Bérubé GM accepted their decision and decided to continue the series against the Braves Batitech of Témiscouata. Subsequently, the president of the league made no apologies for the negative consequences we suffered, and what is more, throwing the blame on our team.

What follows clearly shows that this is a personal revenge of this president, that the presence of which he wants to halo does not contribute to the reputation of the league.

The latter had already mentioned that he wanted parity in the league and that leveling up was the goal. No matter how noble it is, this argument contradicts another of his statements when he cited as an example the quality of the organizational structure of baseball established in Trois-Pistoles, from the minor level to the senior level. Our small town suffers from these inequalities which benefit communities better endowed with financial and human resources. So why all these pitfalls? The following elements confirm the inconsistency of his remarks.

As a reminder, here are the sanctions that were sent to us by the president on my personal Facebook without going through the governors.

  • $ 500 fine to the team
  • Suspension of 5 matches for Richard Lanctôt
  • Suspension of 2 matches at:
    • Dave Voyer,
    • Simon rousseau
    • Xavier McNicoll Belzile,

Without explanation and without proof. We made our request to obtain an imported player without a specific territory, considering that Stéphane Pouliot was not coming back, which was refused to us. We are restricted to an imported player established in Lévis.

So here is our position given that the president makes it a personal issue:

Like the club’s position The Climbers de La Pocatière, the members of the board of directors and the management staff of the Bérubé GM de Trois-Pistoles have no interest in continuing to volunteer in this toxic atmosphere. This is why we offer to anyone wishing to get involved in the organization of the Trois-Pistoles baseball club to come forward. Our books are up to date and you have gained our collaboration. I will also mention that several impact players have told us that they are not interested in continuing in this sorry atmosphere.

For now, the team’s leadership is in consultation with a law firm to assess the possibility of monetary recourse against the president and the League. PURIBEC for the loss of income by excluding us from the final.
