The Chicago Bulls have been without Lonzo Ball for a longer period of time.
As the NBA club announced, the builder will undergo knee surgery and will probably be out for six to eight weeks.
Ball had had problems with his left knee for some time and had missed the last three games, and conservative treatment was unsuccessful.
The Bulls, currently leaders in the Eastern Conference, already have major injury concerns. With star player Zach LaVine as well as Javonte Green, Derrick Jones Jr. and Patrick Williams, other players are absent, some of them for a long time.
The 24-year-old ball switched from the New Orleans Pelicans to Chicago in the summer and has been an important player in the surprisingly strong Bulls season so far. The playmaker averaged 13 points and just over five rebounds and assists in 35 games and is one of the top ball winners in the league.
