The Gießen 46ers have finally won another game in the basketball Bundesliga and left the relegation zone behind.
The Gießen 46ers sent a sign of life in the relegation battle of the basketball Bundesliga. The Central Hesse surprisingly won their home game against the Hamburg Towers, who were badly decimated by Corona, on Saturday with 100:73 (45:35). For the 46ers, who are at least temporarily leaving the relegation zone, it was the first win in almost exactly two months.
Gießen was clearly the better team against the playoff contenders from Hamburg, both on and off the ball. Match winner was guard Kendale McCullum, who not only collected 22 points, but also ten rebounds and six steals. Winger Florian Koch was the top scorer with 24 points – a career best.
Winger Martins Laksa, whose commitment the 46ers only announced two hours before the start of the game, was on the ball for Gießen for the first time. The Latvian international contributed six points to their fourth win of the season.
