The chance that Beerschot will maintain itself this season in the Jupiler Pro League gets smaller and smaller. On Wednesday, the Antwerp team lost the match of truth against Seraing with 2-1.
Beerschot had to win on Wednesday to keep the chances of retention somewhat cool, but that didn’t work out. Despite a lot of good will, Beerschot could not hurt Seraing enough. When it conceded a penalty just before half-time, things looked even worse for the visitors. Mikautadze got the job done.
The visitors faced a difficult task in the second half. Yet they seemed to bring it to a good end. Substitute Shankland was only four minutes on the field when he signed for the equalizer.
The match could have gone either way, but Seraing had Mikautadze available. The best player hit the post on the hour, but Maziz was well followed in the recapitulation. The 2-1 final score was thus on the board. Due to the defeat, Beerschot is now ten points behind Seraing, who remains penultimate.
