Wednesday, January 12, the police officers of the BAC carry out the roadside check of an individual, after having found that he was driving at excessive speed.
But during the check, the police are alerted by the strong smell of cannabis emanating from the vehicle and by the presence of a baseball bat protruding from under the passenger seat. Investigators from the anti-narcotics unit at the Béziers police station then searched the car and discovered 1 kg of cannabis and 66 grams of cocaine. They also find 1,610 euros in cash on the driver.
A search is carried out at the home of the driver, a 47-year-old man living in Béziers. At his home, the investigators then discovered 205.5 additional grams of cocaine as well as 12,750 euros.
Placed in police custody, the Biterrois disputes any resale and claims to keep all these drugs and this money for a contact (whose only nickname he knows) in exchange for his personal consumption. The survey also shows that although the man says he only receives his unemployment benefit, he has more than 11,000 euros in his account.
The Béziers prosecutor’s office ordered the seizure of 10,800 euros from the bank account. At the end of his police custody, the forties was remanded in custody until Wednesday, January 19, the date of his immediate appearance before the criminal court. The man is accused of transporting, possessing, offering or selling and illicit use of narcotics.
Unknown so far to justice, he faces up to 10 years in prison.
