Biathlon – German season storms onto the podium – sport

Only the Russian athletes in Ruhpolding are faster than the quartet of the German Ski Association with Erik Lesser, Roman Rees, Benedikt Doll and Philipp Nawrath.

The German biathletes set an exclamation mark in the third season of the Olympic winter and ran onto the podium for the first time. The quartet of the German Ski Association (DSV) with Erik Lesser, Roman Rees, Benedikt Doll and Philipp Nawrath took a strong second place behind Russia at the home World Cup in Ruhpolding. Three weeks before the Winter Games in Beijing (February 4th to 20th), the DSV men continued to gain self-confidence in the absence of Johannes Kühn, who was suffering from corona.

With just two spare rounds, the DSV quartet was seven seconds behind the Russians (0+4), who won in 1:11:06.1 hours. Belarus (+23.0/0+6) finished third. In the first two relay races of the Olympic winter in Östersund and Hochfilzen, the DSV men narrowly missed out on the podium in fourth place. The Norwegians, winners of the first two relay competitions of the winter, competed without their stars, who are currently completing an altitude training camp.

At the end of the Ruhpolding week, the pursuit of the women (12.45 p.m.) and men (2.45 p.m./both ZDF and Eurosport) are on the program on Sunday. Then on Monday it’s off to Munich to get dressed for the Olympics, before the final races before the Winter Games take place in Antholz (February 20-23).
