Bizarre denouement in the relegation battle of indoor hockey leads to controversy: ‘Outrageous’

Due to the corona pandemic, no indoor hockey competition was played last year. Two years ago, the indoor competition could not be completed because the storm Ciara prevented play of the playoffs. At the time, the KNHB thought it irresponsible to send teams and accompanying supporters out through the bad weather. A few weeks later, the hockey association decided that each team would maintain itself in the main league or be promoted to it.

That is why the main division hall consisted of sixteen teams this season instead of the usual twelve. In order to return to the original number of twelve teams, four clubs had to be relegated. On Sunday, the numbers two of the relegation pool competed with the best number three for two places in next season’s big league.
