There is the target and the line of sight. The one standing in front of the darts club looks straight and unobstructed. Throughout the year, the association “The twisted arrows” continues its activity with great serenity. Despite the stifling context for all leisure and free time, members meet in a space adjoining the large multipurpose room to share hotly contested darts games. Previously, the club had taken up residence at the sports café, before the disappearance of the late Fred El Halaoui. But it is necessary to make a reason, the sympathy and the brotherhood which reign between the practitioners justified an adaptation vis-a-vis the change. Around the target, the discipline is as basic as it is original. The game of darts has its origins in the 14th century and was then used as a military entertainment game, a pastime in England during the medieval era, between two battles. The Bressol club is therefore a very distant echo of this game, which is more than 700 years old. But beyond its ability to kill time, it already served the impulses of competition between players, between soldiers wishing to impose themselves against each other.
So even if there is no longer the darts bar in the center of the village, “The twisted arrows” cheerfully illustrate the originality and the great diversity of the associative fabric of Bressol. Moreover, since its creation, players have already taken part in several tournaments where things are taken very seriously. This game certainly has its origins in archery and javelin throwing. Although the game of darts was mentioned in various writings of the Middle Ages, no one knows with certainty its origins. So there are many hypotheses. However, it is an activity of concentration and application that calls for dexterity and balance. And then in a still troubled context, it corresponds to the idea of maintaining a social bond in a good mood. The game of darts has truly been accepted as a very popular sporting and social activity.
For those who would be curious to try, meet every Thursday evening in the multipurpose room. Information on +33 6 21 87 48 67.
