Willem van Hanegem is shocked by the level of FC Utrecht against Ajax. De Kromme also wonders why captain Willem Janssen had to take a seat on the bench, while Mike van der Hoorn and Mark van der Maarel were allowed to play.
Ajax recorded a 0-3 victory at Utrecht on Sunday afternoon. The final score was already on the scoreboard at halftime. ‘Ajax started well in the Galgenwaard, but god damn it, what a bad performance that FC Utrecht played’, writes Van Hanegem in his column for Algemeen Dagblad.
‘Central defender Willem Janssen is on the bench there this season. Why?’, the former midfielder wonders aloud. ‘If the weak players Mike van der Hoorn and Mark van der Maarel have to form the center and he is not allowed to participate, then that trainer René Hake probably thinks he is bad. Of course, Janssen is not material for the Orange and never has been, but he organizes well, is fanatical, can play football reasonably well and also has insight. FC Utrecht could have used those qualities against Ajax.’
Van Hanegem then aims his arrows at Brian Brobbey. Brobbey rarely or never played in Germany and look: after 45 minutes he already had two in, because we just barely defend here. We are meters away from rush hour traffic, we also build up when it is not possible and we follow walking people, apparently we just can’t do that.’
