RB Leipzig is struggling to win against VfL Wolfsburg. According to the course of the game, a defender heads the decisive goal. The situation is getting more and more precarious for Wolfsburg coach Florian Kohfeldt, his team has been without a win for eleven games.
RB Leipzig has further exacerbated the sporting crisis at VfL Wolfsburg. Florian Kohfeldt’s team lost 2-0 (0-0) at the German runners-up and has now been waiting for a win for eleven competitive games. The relegation rank is still two points away.
The once again lackluster Saxons, however, managed to achieve their third championship win in a row under head coach Domenico Tedesco. Willi Orban scored the lead in the 76th minute in front of 1000 spectators in the Red Bull Arena, Josko Gvardiol finally destroyed all remaining hopes of the guests with his goal on his 20th birthday in the 84th minute.
In the duel between the two best of the year at the DFB coaching course, Tedesco made three changes compared to the 2-0 win against Rostock in the DFB Cup. Among other things, he relied on youngster Hugo Novoa alongside striker André Silva. Kohfeldt brought on Steffen Aster Vranckx for Renato who was suspended.
Like the guests after the death of Hans-Jürgen Dörner, Leipzig played in black ribbons and started the game with a lot of possession. But not much came out at first. Novoa (18′) had the first chance to score with a long-range shot that Koen Casteels parried.
Football lean food in Leipzig
The guests became bolder, got more time in the game and had the chance to take the lead with a free kick from Vranckx (38′). But Peter Gulacsi fended off the direct shot from 25 meters to the corner. Immediately afterwards, the Hungarian national keeper was there again and saved from close range – again against Vranckx.
After the change, the footballing lean but competitive game was completely open. Both teams made too many mistakes in the build-up game. Tedesco set new accents in the 55th minute with Lukas Klostermann, Dani Olmo and Tyler Adams. That had an effect. Willi Orban (58th) chased the ball into the net from close range, but it was offside. After a good hour, RB pushed and increased the pressure. After a header from Silva on the post, Orban also headed the ball over the line from one and a half meters – and the goal counted before Gvardiol added – confirmed by the video evidence.
Leipzig remains a difficult place for Kohfeldt. In the Bundesliga he made five appearances for RB and lost every time.
