Horror minute for VfB!
It was exactly 60 seconds in the 0:2 in the 40th Baden-Württemberg derby at SC Freiburg that decided whether Stuttgart won or lost.
34. Minute: VfB star Tibidi puts the ball past Kübler in the sixteen on the left after stepping over twice and falls. Referee Stieler has a clear view and gives a penalty immediately.
But then the video cellar turns on. Stieler looks at the scene on the sidelines again. Clearly visible: There is a clear contact. But Kübler’s foot is on the ground when Tibidi hits it with his right foot. In addition, the VfB star falls a bit into the duel. Not enough for Stieler. He changes his mind. threaded. No 911!
But that’s not all!
37. Minute: Freiburg uses the confusion to attack through the middle. Höler lays on Höfler. The skin on it. Ito deflects from unsustainable, the 1-0 for Freiburg. Exactly 60 stopped-out seconds after Stieler’s “No penalty” sign. In the 71st minute, Kevin Schade put the lid on it with the 2:0.

Stuttgart stumbles over interpretation penalties
Freiburg board member Jochen Saier during the break at Sky on the decisive scene: “The VfB player is looking for contact. So, in my opinion, rightly withdrawn.”
Sees Sven Mislintat completely differently. The VfB sports director bursts on the sidelines after Freiburg’s 1-0 in front of the eyes of grandstand guest Jogi Löw: Applauding he mumbles towards Stieler, but can’t get himself back together.
And even after the game he’s still mad as hell on the Sky mic. “For all those who didn’t see the contact – everyone in the stadium heard it. Referee performances of this kind destroy the games. The game changes with such a situation. I think taking it back is unbelievable. It’s not a clear wrong decision. There would never be anything like that against teams with a different reputation than VfB Stuttgart.”
And Freiburg goal scorer Nicolas Höfler also admitted on the Sky microphone: “It’s extremely important for us that he took it back. Otherwise it would have been much more difficult…”
Sky voice Klaus Veltman best sums up whether you should have pointed to the point. The commentator: “The 911 is a matter of interpretation. touch there. Is that enough? Two ways of answering. A borderline case.”
Also curious: Stieler does NOT come back on the pitch after half-time. During the break he gives the sign that it is no longer possible due to injury and swaps roles with the 4th official Christian Dingert. He whistles to end the game.
For Stuttgart it is the fifth game without a point or a goal. It’s now 477 minutes without a goal. Sad new club record!
A training camp is supposed to help: it starts on Sunday. Until Friday in Marbella/Spain in the same hotel as in the year of promotion 2020. Maybe it will help this time too.
