After its failure on Sunday against Cameroon, Burkina Faso rebounded Thursday against Cape Verde (1-0). A victory which allows the Stallions to keep all their chances of reaching the round of 16.
Burkina Faso can breathe. After the disappointment in the opening match, lost 2-1 against Cameroon, the Stallions managed to revive in Group A of the African Cup of Nations (CAN). Thanks to their 1-0 victory, Thursday, January 13, over Cape Verde, they keep their fate in hand.
However, nothing seems to go as planned for the Burkinabè in this CAN-2022. In the first match, five of their players as well as coach Kamou Malo were declared positive for Covid-19. Before the meeting against Cape Verde, they lost their captain Bertrand Traoré for the same reason.
However, the Burkinabè do not allow themselves to be defeated by this adversity. On the contrary, it motivates them. Edmond Tapsoba demonstrates it by sending a powerful shot from a free kick, which Vozinha deflects for a corner (12th).
Issa Kaboré’s first goal
A few minutes later, another Tapsoba, Abdoul, loses a duel against the Cape Verdean goalkeeper (26th). Hervé Koffi must then shine: the Burkinabé goalkeeper deflects a shot from Julio Tavares (30th).
Bandé ends up freeing his teammates. He takes a center millimeter center Issa Kaboré who crucifies at close range the Cape Verdean goalkeeper to score his first goal in the selection (39, 1-0).
If Burkina Faso dominates the Blue Sharks, the latter do not give up the equalizer. They fully play the few openings left to them by the Stallions. Like this head of Patrick Andrade who does not go far. Found six meters from Koffi’s goal, Qarabag’s midfielder smashes his head towards the ground, which bounces the ball above the Burkinabe goal (60th).
Then, Garry Rodrigues comes face to Dayo, and wraps a strike with the right foot. Hervé Koffi relaxes well on his left side to ward off danger (63rd). The Capverviens pushed until the end of the match but it was a waste of time: Hervé Koffi closed the door to them.
With this victory, the Burkina Faso team made an excellent operation which allowed them to join their evening opponents in the standings (3 points each). Sunday, she will try to win her qualification against Ethiopia, which is on two defeats in a row while its opponent will have to face Cameroon, undefeated so far.
